What Tax Schools of America Can Do For You

Tax Centers of America, Inc. (d.b.a.) Tax Schools of America, is an IRS-approved Continuing Education Provider under the requirements of IRS Circular 230, Section 10.6. Our curriculum is designed for the tax professional and covers ethical issues and professional conduct issues, with a primary focus on the many varied facets of tax return preparation. Our curriculum covers a myriad of federal tax law topics, including the most recent tax law changes related to each topic. Our online self-study courses meet standard requirements prescribed by the IRS for testing in the successful completion of each course and are formatted to the standard requirement of one-hour (50 minutes) increments developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA).

Our program is designed particularly for non-credentialed tax return preparers, meaning those preparers that are not Enrolled Agents (EAs), Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) or Professional Tax Attorneys. Even though there is no current mandate, non-credentialed preparers are encouraged by the IRS to voluntarily participate in the IRS Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP). Successful completion of the AFSP allows non-credentialed preparers to be eligible for inclusion in the IRS's public directory of tax return preparers and, beginning January 1, 2016, provides them with limited representation rights before the IRS. The program consists of completing 18 hours of continuing education annually; 10 hours of federal tax law topics, 2 hours of ethics, and a 6 hour Annual Tax Refresher (AFTR) course with comprehensive exam.

Upon successful completion of a course, the continuing education (CE) credits will be posted by Tax Schools of America to the participant's Professional Tax Identification Number (PTIN) account (and California Tax Education Council (CTEC) account, if applicable). Course credits are submitted to the IRS (and California, if applicable) within one week of successful course completion.
